Hi! It feels so good to be blogging again. I am so sorry that I have not been writing. Anyway, today I will be telling you guys all about my trip. So here it is…
Day 1 (30 may 2016)
At 7:45am we arrived at Changi Airport Singapore. I was so so so excited as this would my very 1st overseas school trip with all my friends, but I was also feeling a little sad as it would also be my very 1st time being away from my family in a different country. As I was about to enter the immigration, I started to cry. At that time, I felt like I did not want to go for the trip, but after awhile, I felt ok and went through immigration. Since we were taking Singapore Airlines (it was my 1st time taking Singapore Airlines), we went to the counter and went through immigration clearance, then waited to board the plane. In the plane, I watched TV the whole journey to Shanghai (we transit in Shanghai before boarding another plane to Xi’an). I was so happy and I even did some word search. For lunch I ate chicken spaghetti and for dessert, we had ice cream. YAY!! After we landed, we had to walk for about another 10 to 15 minutes to the other terminal to board the next plane.
When it was my turn to check in my luggage, they said I could not board the plane as the letter ‘c’ from my passport number was missing. So my teachers and the tour guide tried their best to let me board the plane. When they succeeded, I was so extremely happy that I would not be left behind but the lady at the counter said that it was too late I cannot board the plane. My heart felt so heavy. I tried to hold my tears back and pretended to be brave. I took my luggage and followed my teachers to break the news to my friends. Tears dripped down my face as I saw the rest of my friends going through immigration. My teacher Mrs Yong and the tour guide Mr Chan stayed behind with me. That was also my very 1st time being stranded in an overseas country. I felt so sad and hopeless. Mr Chan also said that we might even need to stay at the airport overnight. When Mr Chan went to check when the next flight from Shanghai to Xi’an is, Mrs Yong and in went to KFC for dinner.
When Mr Chan came back it was about 6pm, and he said that the next flight is at 8:30pm. My heart then felt lighter. I was happy that I would not have to stay overnight in the airport. So we took our time and ate dinner and slowly walked over to the next terminal as our flight was at another terminal. When we arrived at the terminal, we immediately got my luggage checked in, went through customs and boarded the plane. A few minutes after plane took off, I slept as I was so exhausted. Then I felt like I was being shaken so I woke up. And the Air Stewardess announced that there was a slight turbulence. It was also my 1st time experiencing a turbulence without my family. I was scared so I read some prayers in my heart and went back to sleep. After we landed, I called my mother to inform her that I was ok.
Then a very kind uncle drove us to the hotel which took about an hour, and I also slept in the car. When we arrived at the hotel I called my mother again after collecting my room card. After that I went to the room where my roommate, Charlene, was waiting for me. I put my luggage onto the chair and changed into my pyjamas. When I was going to sleep, I cried a little as I was missing my family and also felt that I wanted to go back home.
On that day, I learnt that, there will always be problems in life and that I must overcome it bravely, I was also proud of myself that I managed to sleep overnight in another country without my family with me.
Part 2 will be up tomorrow!
So here are some of the pictures I took on Day 1.
